ARTIST PROFILE

My home for the past 25 years has been the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Although I travel all around the U.S. and have also visited some other countries the majority of my images are from the High Sierra where I have explored extensively from Yosemite to Sequoia. Hiking all through the backcountry and all along the fringes.
Please explore my website to view a small assortment of work I have chosen to display for you.
I am a self-taught photographer creating my images for the love of it. I learned from books, magazines, talking with other photographers and wasting lots of film.
Although I have had and used cameras for as long as I can remember I really took a serious intrest in photography as an art form in the mid 1980s.
I do most of my work in 35mm format because of the convenience it provides such as being able to move fast in quickly changing light conditions, also most of my work is done in the backcountry far from roads and trails. 35mm allows me to carry the equipment I need to produce quality images that can be printed up to 16x24 inches and still maintain crisp, sharp detail.
About 1990 I began to feel my work was reaching a respectable quality and I started entering competitions starting with our county fair. I entered 15 photos in the fair and took 12 awards including best of show. Since that time I have been published in books, magazines, a book cover, postcards and note cards. I have received several awards of accomplishment and excellence in the field of photography from the International library of Photography and photographers forum to name a few. At about the same time I began selling my work at flea markets, craft shows and to friends, relatives and people whom I work with. Although my marketing skills could be improved I have managed to get my hobby to pay for itself.
Because I do not depend on my photography to eat or pay my bills it allows me to shoot from the heart and not to please someone else's criteria. For the same reason I am able to sell high quality prints at extremely reasonable prices.

It makes me feel good that other people find pleasure in viewing my images and express a desire to display them on the walls of their homes and offices.it's as if they have taken a part of me into their lives.
I also hope that my images will inspire others to love and care for the world and all the other creatures around us and help to protect and preserve them to share with their childern, grandchildern and other photographers for years to come.
